Requirements to Apply for Residency in Honduras
Foreigners looking to establish residency in Honduras can apply for legal residency under the following categories: pension or retirement residency (pensionado), income-based (rentista), investor (inversionista), spouse of a Honduran citizen, or family bond residency.
All residency applications require the documents listed below. Each residency category varies and will require additional documentation.
- Criminal background check from country of origin
- Birth certificate
- Recent photograph
- Migratory records issued by the Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM)
- Police Records issued by the Honduran Police (DPI)
- Certificate of good health, issued in Honduras
- Valid passport
Under Honduran law, the following qualify as dependents: spouses, children under the age of 21, parents and grandparents of the main applicant, children over the age of 21 who depend economically on the main applicant due to disability or provided that they are full time students.
If applying with dependents, proof of kinship must be provided in addition to the documents listed above.
All residency and special permit applications must be made through a Honduran attorney.
About the Documents for your Residency Application:
- Documents from abroad must be authenticated by a Notary Public, then apostilled or legalized and authenticated by the Honduran Consulate in your country. See a list of countries who apply for apostille.
- All documents from abroad must be translated to Spanish.
- All documents must be issued within six months prior to filing the application.
- Passports must be valid for at least one year prior to filing the application.
- If applicant has gone through a name change, additional documentation is required in order to prove it’s the same person.
